The third panel of our Michaelmas 2022 series titled 'Discovering Britain through Discourses of Indigeneity III: The Present Day' took place on the 30th of November 2022.
The event took place on Zoom. The event hosted three distinguished speakers who presented and engaged in conversation - we are grateful for their participation:
LeAndra Nephin, Complex Trauma Therapist at NHS / University of Oxford; Enrolled member of the Omaha Tribe of Nebraska and Iowa with lineal descent from the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska; Board Member for Incomindios UK, Beyond the Spectacle: Native North American Presence in Britain.
Prof. Jimmy Lee Beason II, citizen of the Osage Nation of Oklahoma, from the Eagle Clan. Writer, poet, and essayist about contemporary native issues. Professor in the Indigenous and American Indian Studies Department at Haskell Indian Nations University.
Shelby Siebers, member of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin. Alumnus of Lawrence University with a degree in Ethnic Studies and Psychology. Research centered around barriers faced by Indigenous youth in educational settings. Cultural advisor, Native American Support Specialist for Native high school students.
